"When you've got the Holy Ghost living in you, it will develop in you intolerances."

I must have missed that verse in the Bible. I don't see this in our confessions either. Can anything that serves to tear apart rather than build up be of God? How will the world know that we are Christians if we allow intolerance to grow and fester in our hearts rather than keeping them open to the life transforming love of God? It is my sincere prayer that the PC(USA) will not separate. I fear that the resulting parts will be so much less than the division of the whole. - Mark Dayton

In reading Richard Lindsey's response it brings to mind Gamaliel's teaching: 'So in the present case, I say to you, stay away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or action is of men, it will be overthrown; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them; or else you may even be found fighting against God.' (Acts 5:38-39 NRSV) Must we come to this? If we put as much energy into supporting the first four recommendations of the PUP Report that we seem to be putting into fighting over the last two, we would be much better off. - Mark Dayton

I am tired of sitting on my hands while the New Wineskins movement gets all the press. Since I just turned 60, I think I am qualified to start an Old Wineskins Movement.

We will not need to waste our money on travelling across the country to beat our drums together - money that could have been used for mission or Christian education or outreach in the community.

Our motto is simple: LET 'EM GO! Those churches who no longer want to be part of the PCUSA, LET 'EM GO! The Old Wineskins will even be willing to LET 'EM leave with their property as long as they leave us with their PCUSA minister and staff pension funds! The pension funds for their minister(s)and staff should be easy for many of the New Wineskin churches to replace with all that PCUSA benevolence money they have been withholding for the last 10 to 15 years!

Old Wineskins, 'enough is enough' - let 'em go so they can 'target' their financial support for causes they agree with (when I was an Army officer, I saw the word 'target' in a number of military manuals - but for the life of me I do not remember seeing it in the PCUSA Book of Confessions or Book of Order)!

More Old Wineskins are welcome - no dues, no meetings, no travel - just be faithful to your ordination vows including your tithe and your congregation's tithe through the PCUSA with no strings attached!
