I appreciate this thoughtful approach by Michael in raising ecclesiology as the central question of our day. I affirm his analysis that we are neither THE church universal, nor are we a mere corporate entity. I would just say that there is no church/denomination in the world today that is faithful enough to the gospel for us not to have to struggle mightily. If God decides to let the PCUSA expire, so be it. But we mortals ought to be careful about actively seeking the dissolution of an entity that can still claim to be 'church' in some form. Besides, to what existing denomination would we flee to? Or do we create a 'new wineskin' denomination from scratch? Both these options are ludicrous if we are willing to admit our self-delusionary thought that we might do church better than somebody else. - Jin Kim
